MEDIA RELEASE

INFECTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL ISSUE IDENTIFIED BY MIDDLESEX LONDON HEALTH UNIT (MLHU)

Updated August 21 – ParaMed has received a notice from the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) regarding an infection prevention and control practice relating to wound care at their London Flex clinics. Upon being notified by MLHU, we acted immediately to ensure no ongoing risk to our clients. ParaMed has been working closely with MLHU to identify which clients may be impacted by this infection prevention and control issue and to notify those clients.

*All 4 London nursing clinics have addressed the issues raised by the public health unit and eliminated any risk to clients. They have all been re-inspected and are open by permission of the public health unit. The other 15 nursing clinics operated by ParaMed in Ontario were all inspected by public health units by August 20 and no lapse in infection prevention and control measures were observed.

Client well-being is our top priority and ParaMed takes this issue very seriously. While the risk and likelihood of developing an infection from this potential exposure is very low, we are advising wound care clients that received treatment at these clinics that they may want to consider precautionary testing for infectious disease. We have mailed letters to individual clients with details on how and where to get tested. To date we have not had any reported cases of infectious diseases contracted as a result of care received in our clinics.

Should any clients or families have any concerns regarding care that they received at the ParaMed Flex clinics in London/Middlesex, we encourage them to contact our dedicated number at 1 888 746 5511. The line is available 7 days a week.

If you have any additional questions related to this matter, further information can be found on the Middlesex-London Health Unit’s website at www.healthunit.com/ipac-lapse-paramed.
