Building careers from the inside out: ParaMed’s HSW to PSW Bridging Program

“The skills and knowledge I’ve gained through this program are invaluable, and I am eager to continue learning and growing within the company,” says Maria, one of the recent graduates of ParaMed’s HSW to PSW Bridging Program, who is now advancing her career as Personal Support Workers providing quality care to those we serve.

We are proud to support passionate, dedicated ParaMed Home Support Workers (HSWs) as they take the next step, earning PSW qualifications while working full-time or part-time. HSWs can upskill at their own pace and at no cost, to launch a new career as a PSW at ParaMed after graduation.

The program works in partnership with local colleges. New cohorts begin throughout the year, offering ongoing opportunities for career development and growth.

About the HSW to PSW Bridging Program

Designed for current ParaMed team members who are HSWs, the Bridging Program supports lifelong learning and career growth with flexibility in mind. Participants can ’earn while they learn’, gaining valuable skills through small class sizes in an asynchronous, virtual learning environment. Graduates emerge career-ready and equipped to make an even greater impact on the lives of their clients.

Many participants are drawn to the flexible format of the program which is designed to fit around a full-time work schedule. For team members like Sue, balancing personal and professional commitments is a priority, “I wanted to learn more and further my career within the company. The program is online and works with my current schedule. It’s been a fun and great learning experience.”

Supporting passion with practical skills

Above all, participants are driven by helping people live better at home. ParaMed’s HSW to PSW Bridging Program is not just an opportunity for career advancement, it is about deepening the quality of care they are able to provide to clients in their homes.

PSW Anna, a graduate now working in ParaMed’s Wellington-Waterloo district, has always been passionate about connecting with people and making a difference. “This role allows me to do just that,” she tells us.
