Beyond reception: Supporting care behind the scenes
When most people think about home health care, they picture front-line team members, like Nurses, Personal Support Workers (PSWs), Occupational Therapists, and others who provide hands-on-care. But behind every visit, there is a team of people working to make that care possible.
ParaMed receptionists, like Julieta in downtown Toronto, are an important part of that team.
Julieta’s career with ParaMed began on the front lines as a PSW. While caring for patients, she was also studying administration courses in the evenings. With ParaMed’s support, she trained in-office and was offered a position as a receptionist when she completed her schooling. Nearly six years later, she is still in the role and loving it.
“I really love my job. I love helping my coworkers,” Julieta says. “Every day is fantastic. I come to work happy.”
One of Julieta’s core responsibilities is supporting the front-line nurses and PSWs by assisting with appointment coordination when required.
Organizational and adaptability are key to her role. Each morning, Julieta checks in with her supervisor to learn which available team members are scheduled for that day, so when calls come in, she can respond quickly and keep things running smoothly. Having worked both on the front lines and in the ParaMed office, she knows firsthand the importance of communication, time management and people skills.
From her desk, Julieta sees the impact of her work every day.
“I love watching the people around me connect with our patients and ensure they are getting the care they need,” she says. “I know I am helping people living better at home.”
