Finding Purpose in Home Healthcare: Nubia’s Story

For Nubia, caregiving isn’t just a job, it’s a calling. A former nurse in Colombia, Nubia came to Canada six years ago and found her way into the home healthcare field as a Personal Support Worker (PSW) with ParaMed.

Nubia says she enjoys providing support and being a friendly face to clients who live on their own.

“They need someone to listen, to help, to be there with them,” she explains.

Nubia values the meaningful connections she builds through home care. “You’re with your clients day after day. You understand when they’re happy, when they feel alone, when they need support,” she says. “That attention makes a difference.”

Her clients feel it, too. “Sometimes they say, ‘I was waiting for you!’” Nubia shares, smiling. “It’s amazing to help people. It makes me feel very happy.”

For Nubia, home healthcare is more than a profession. It’s about compassion, empathy, and showing up every day to make someone else’s day a little brighter.
