Nurse Rinechia’s story of compassion and care at ParaMed
When Rinechia talks about her nursing career, it’s clear this is more than a job – it’s a calling that has guided her since childhood. Growing up in Jamaica, she admired the nurses in crisp white uniforms who cared for people in her community. By the time she was seven, she knew she wanted to be one of them. Today, that dream has carried her to Canada, where she provides home care in the Toronto area as a Registered Nurse with ParaMed.
Home care advantage
For Rinechia, the difference between working in a hospital setting and in home care is remarkable. In the community, she can meet patients where they are most comfortable, surrounded by family, familiar spaces and routines.
“You’re in their space,” she explains. “They know their kitchen, their washroom, where everything is. They’re more relaxed. That’s when you really get to build trust.”
Over time, Rinechia discovered that a career in home health care is about more than just being a nurse; she is a steady presence in the lives of her patients and families, sometimes seeing the same person multiple times a day.
“You really form relationships,” she says.
She recalls how families confide in her, even before she enters the home, to share important updates so she can adapt to patients’ care needs with compassion.
Through this, Rinechia exemplifies two key ParaMed values: embracing every person for the individual they are and caring for each person as we would our own family.
A career at ParaMed: supported to succeed
The balance of professional independence and strong support is a standout of work culture at ParaMed, and a key reason why nurses like Rinechia thrive here. She appreciates the flexibility to manage her own schedule and adjust appointments to meet patients’ needs.
She also highlights the importance of ongoing training opportunities and the expert support of a dedicated clinical team that is always available to her to offer guidance and answer any questions when she is in the community
“The support is there. That means a lot,” she reflects.
Growing through care
That combination – flexibility, independence, and reliable support – makes ParaMed a place where nurses can grow and feel confident in their practice. Upon joining ParaMed, Rinecha had recently completed her education and received the credentials to move from a position as a Registered Practical Nurse to a Registered Nurse.
“If someone asked me about starting a career here, I’d say come right ahead. Bring your experience, or even if you’re just starting out, you can blossom here,” Rinechia says.
As clients and families welcome caregivers like Rinechia into their homes, they experience firsthand the difference that compassionate and skilled home health care professionals can make to provide people with the care they need, wherever they call home.
